If you are unfamiliar with a Herbst device, the thought of figuring out how to insert and remove it can seem a little intimidating. However, placement and removal of your Herbst device is quite simple and user friendly.
Placing Your Herbst Device
Inserting your device into your mouth is very easy. If your Herbst device is connected as one piece, you’ll put it into your mouth like a sandwich. If your Herbst device is in two separate pieces, you’ll insert the bottom row first, followed by the top. To secure the Herbst device into place, you’ll push firmly on the teeth, starting with the front teeth and then the back teeth. To ensure that your Herbst device will stay in place, it is important to make sure that your teeth are seated in your device all the way.
Removing Your Herbst Device
Removing your Herbst device is as simple as giving a little push. You will begin removal of your device by using your thumbs to push up on the bottom row, starting with the back teeth and working your way forward. For the top half, you will use your index fingers to push the device down firmly at the gum line. When removing your Herbst device, it is important to avoid pushing down on the arms or the titration block of the device.
