How Many Teeth Do I Need For a Custom Dental Appliance?

Hi, I’m Dr. Richard Drake with Dr. Drake’s Sleep Solutions. And I want to talk to you real quickly about custom dental devices and how many teeth do you need. We get ask this question all the time, every day in my practice.

So if you have no teeth at all, no upper teeth, no lower teeth, we can’t make you a custom mandibular repositioning device. We can use a tongue stabilizing device. We can do something like that or CPAP your only options.

But no teeth on top and just four teeth on the bottom, we can make you a custom dental device. We do a process where we duplicate your denture, and then it attaches to your lower teeth. That’s all there is. So as always, visit your dentist at least once a year, preferably twice. Get your teeth cleaned, checked up. And that allows you to use this option as a way to treat your sleep apnea.
