Are You Ready For A Home Sleep Test?

Are You Ready For A Home Sleep Test?

If you snore and experience issues like daytime drowsiness, then you could potentially need treatment for sleep apnea. But how do we know for sure? In addition to our sleep quiz, we could conduct a Home Sleep Test. At our helpful Schertz, TX, sleep center, we want to make a diagnosis with precision and help you rest with ease!

The Symptoms You Need to Watch For

When should you reach out to our office about treating sleep apnea? With this disorder, your REM sleep is interrupted multiple times a night as the collapse of soft tissues cuts off airflow. You may wake in the night gasping for air or choking and could snore frequently. In the waking hours, you could experience daytime drowsiness, headaches, dry mouth, moodiness, and even issues with concentration or memory. When one or more of these symptoms apply to your daily life, then reach out to our team for treatment.

Starting with a Quiz

To begin, we will ask you a few questions about your sleep habits and possible risk factors and symptoms. We can then assess your possible risk of sleep apnea. But for a more accurate diagnosis, we could offer a Home Sleep Test, or we may even refer you to a sleep study.

HST and Sleep Studies

With the Home Sleep Test, our team will send a small device home with you that you will wear while you sleep. The device then records blood oxygen levels and apneic episodes, and we can get an accurate look at your sleep as you do so in a natural setting. A board-certified sleep physician will then interpret these results and find out if you need treatment. For some, we may also recommend a professional sleep study, in which you rest in a lab setting while you are monitored by professionals.

When these tests point to sleep apnea, what next? Instead of a CPAP machine, we are happy to offer our patients an alternative in the form of an oral appliance. Custom-fitted for your smile, the device will be worn while you rest and helps shift your jaw and tongue to keep airways open and free of collapse. You breathe without interruption and feel more rested and alert during waking hours. If you have any questions about how we diagnose sleep apnea, then contact our team today to learn more.
